Major drop in Skilled Migration criteria offers new opportunities for immigration to New Zealand
While large-scale immigration has become difficult elsewhere, it is good to see that New Zealand is now bucking the trend with a major drop in its fortnightly selection mark for Skilled Migration (from 135 to 110). This drop means that an average couple, where both partners possess a recognised degree or trade qualification and meet the other official criteria, may now apply for permanent residence WITHOUT having to initially obtain a qualifying job prior to arriving in New Zealand.
Grant King of the Migration Bureau commented, "This is an exciting development that opens up the prospect of successful immigration to New Zealand for a much greater number of eligible people". At the very least, under the new criteria, eligible candidates could be granted “work to residence” visas, including up to 9 months temporary residence to enable local job searching.

Such government selection criteria are not set in stone, so we urge eligible candidates to act quickly, in case this trend in the Skilled Migration selection mark is not sustained by the New Zealand government.
